The call for entries to the Cinemalaya Independent Film Competition for both 2015 Short Film Category and 2016 Full Length Feature Category is now open. All filmmakers are encouraged to submit their entries at the CCP Media Arts Division along with the fully-accomplished entry form which is downloadable online. You may submit a maximum of three (3) entries, but only one (1) entry per proponent may be considered as a finalist. Enter your best shot and be included in the ten (10) shortlisted finalists. The short feature films will be screened during the Cinemalaya Festival this year while the full length feature films is scheduled next year. This may be your stepping stone to success so make your film boldly interpret the Filipino experience with fresh insight and artistic integrity. The winner in the 2015 Short Film Category will receive P150,000 cash + Balanghai trophy. Cash prizes worth P350,000 (Best Film), P100,000 (Special Jury Prize), and P75,000 (Audience Choice) will also be given to the winners of the 2016 Full Length Feature Category.

Contest Requirements:
  • All local-based Filipino filmmakers. Note: For the 2016 Full Length Feature Category, entries by Filipino filmmakers residing abroad may be accepted only on exceptional cases such as in the submission of a superior material and if both director and producer can personally meet with the Competition Committee to discuss the material
Contest Mechanics:
  1. Log on to culturalcenter.gov.ph or cinemalaya.org and download the entry form for the 2015 Short Film Category and 2016 Full Length Feature Category
  2. Two (2) Categories:
    • 2015 Short Film Category
    • 2016 Full Length Feature Category
  3. Entry Guidelines
    • 2015 Short Film Category
      • The final work in DVD format, labeled with the title, production company address and contact numbers, production date, director's name and running time
      • Synopsis in Filipino or English
      • Dialogue should be primarily in Filipino or any Philippine language as appropriate, with English subtitles
      • A brief résumé/biodata and two (2) recent 2x2 photos
      • Short film entries that have been featured in other local and international festivals and competitions are qualified for the competition
      • Should not exceed 20 minutes, inclusive of credit titles
      • Music used in any entry must be original, licensed or in the public domain
      • All entries, along with the completely filled out entry form must be submitted in a long brown envelope properly labeled with proponent’s name, title and contact details
    • 2016 Full Length Feature Category
      • Synopsis in Filipino or English (1 page, 12 pts font size, not more than 300 words)
      • Detailed sequence treatment (between 50 – 60 sequences, double space, 12 pts Courier, letter-sized bond paper, 1 inch margin all around)
      • A brief résumé/biodata and two (2) recent 2x2 photos
      • Samples of previous works (e.g. short films, etc.) in DVD format
      • The total production budget should not exceed P3,500,000
      • The sheets containing the synopsis and detailed sequence treatment must not bear your name
      • Full scripts will not be accepted
      • All works must be strictly independent films
      • All works must have their premiere screening at the Cinemalaya Festival
      • Entries must be submitted in six (6) copies in a long brown envelope properly labelled with your name, title of the film entry, and contact details
  4. Submit your entries to the
    • Media Arts Division 
      Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP)
      Roxas Blvd., Pasay City
  5. You may submit a maximum of three (3) entries, but only one (1) entry per proponent may be considered as a finalist
  6. Entries selected as finalists cannot be withdrawn from the competition
  7. You must assign a single representative to act on behalf of your team. All official communications shall be addressed to the representative
  8. The decision of the Board of Judges is final

    • April 14, 2015 - Announcement of the ten (10) best short features
    • May 15, 2015 - Submission of requirements by the selected ten (10) Finalists
    • August 7-14, 2015 - 2015 Cinemalaya Festival. Screening of ten (10) short feature films
  • 2016 Full Length Feature Category
    • June 24, 2016 - Deadline for the submission of the completed full length feature films
    • August 5-14, 2016 - 2016 Cinemalaya Festival. Screening of ten (10) full length feature films
