Calling all students around the world. Join in the Shell Ideas360 contest and share your innovative idea & proposal following the theme "People & Planet - the Energy, Water and Food Challenge". Register online and have your ideas evaluated. Get shortlisted and move on to Stage 2 wherein you will present your project proposal with video in more detail. Only 5 finalists will progress to the finals. Fly to the Netherlands and pitch your proposal to senior Shell executives, innovators and industry leaders. This is a once in a lifetime chance to collaborate with like-minded innovators and mentors to expand your horizons. Make your idea pitch-perfect because an exciting National Geographic Adventure of your choice worth US$10,000 awaits in the finals.

Contest Requirements:
  • Open to all students worldwide, 18 years old and above, currently studying as a full time bachelors or masters (excluding those studying for Phd or MPhil degrees) at a recognised, degree awarding university or other equivalent higher education establishments
  • You can join as an individual or a team of 3 members coming from the same or different Universities/countries
  • Note: Students under the age of 18 at the time of registration must have the consent a parent or legal guardian before entering the competition.
Contest Mechanics:
  1. Log on to, register and set up your personal profile at shellideas360.com
  2. Theme:  "People & Planet - the Energy, Water and Food Challenge". Develop an innovative idea and proposal related to Energy, Water and Food.
  3. Entry Guidelines
    • Competition documents and products provided (proposals, submissions, videos and presentations) are all required to be in English
    • Stage 1
      • Registration and submission of ideas for evaluation
      • Basic information about an idea that could help solve Energy, Water or Food issues, including the following details:
        • Title - 6 words
        • The elevator pitch -  a description of the idea in a couple of sentences (200 words)
        • Image/Photo representing the idea
        • Basic category selection - Energy/Water/Food
        • A self assessment of:
          • How novel is your idea?
          • How doable is your idea?
          • How relevant is your idea?
          • How valuable is your idea?
      • Up to 100 individual participants/teams will be selected to proceed to Stage 2
    • Stage 2
      • A detailed project proposal and video (up to 3 minutes) explaining your idea in more detail
      • Selected ideas will have access to:
        • A designated mentor
        • Expert Google Hangouts; support to further develop idea
        • Leadership & business skills training
      • Five (5) Finalists will be selected to proceed to Stage 3
    • Stage 3
      • Finalists arrive in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, for the Final Event. For selected Teams, at least one team member must attend the Final Event on behalf of the group
      • 3 days intensive coaching
      • Pitch idea to senior Shell executives, innovators and industry leaders for presentation at the Final Event

  5. You cannot participate in more than one group. Teams nominate a team captain who is the only person who can submit an idea on behalf of the team.
  6. Registration is only once
  7. Shell International Limited will organise and pay for all reasonable accommodation and economy-class travel expenses for the Finalists to participate in the Final Event
  8. Prizes cannot be redeemed as cash, are non-transferable and no substitution will be made except at the Shell International Limited’s sole discretion. Also, Shell reserves the right to substitute a prize for one of equal or greater value if the designated prize should become unavailable for any reason

STAGE 3
14 APRIL – 22 MAY 2015

The Finalists prepare their final presentations

The Finalists submit a draft of their final presentation to enable technical/compatibility checks to be carried out by the Promoter

The Finalists arrive in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, for the Final Event

Final Event – Panel of Judges select the Winner of the Competition* NB: Final Event dates and schedule are subject to change

  • Grand Winner - National Geographic Adventure of your choice worth US$10,000
