Calling all filmmakers! Get those entries ready for the CineFilipino 2012 Film Festival. PLDT Smart Foundation, in association with Unitel Productions, is here to support and develop new cinematic works of artistic worth by new and established filmmakers that help define the human experience through a Filipino perspective. There are two (2) categories to choose from: Feature-Length Narrative Filmmakers (for experienced filmmakers) Shorts Filmmakers category (for college students). Eight (8) finalists for the Feature-Length & ten (10) finalists from the Short Film section will be selected and screened during festival week. While no seed production grant will be provided for the Short Film finalists, the eight (8) selected Feature-Length finalists, however, will each receive P1.5 million seed grant as investment into their production. Cash prizes at stake for the Feature-Length category are P500,000, P300,000 and P200,000 respectively. On the other hand, P100,000, P75,000 and P50,000 are to be given away to the Short Film category.

Contest Requirements:

  • Any local citizen or having local descent filmmakers
  • For participants of local descent but non-citizens
    • Submit proof of Filipino lineage (may be NSO-certified birth certificate of relative establishing Filipino lineage
  • For Feature-Length Narrative Filmmakers Category:
    • Must have a previous experience in directing (either for film, TV, stage, commercials, or music videos), or in the field of scriptwriting, cinematography, editing, production design, sound design or producing at least for two (2) short films or have worked as full-time staff on more than one feature film
      • A first-time screenwriter may submit, but the proposed/suggested director to his project must meet the aforementioned requirement
  • For Short Filmmakers Category:
    • Must currently be a college student (or a graduate no earlier than 2012)
Contest Mechanics:

  1. Log on to cinefilipino.com and download the application form for feature-lenght film and short film
  2. Two (2) Categories:
    • Feature-Length Narrative Filmmakers Section - films not longer than 130 minutes or shorter than 80 minutes running time
    • Shorts Filmmakers Section - shorts not more than 20 minutes or shorter than five minutes running time
  3. Entry Guidelines:
    • For Feature-Length Narrative Filmmakers Section
      • A full-length screenplay (using Courier font, 11 points) that delve into the Filipino identity and culture
      • 80-130 minutes running time
      • Maximum of 25 words logline of the screenplay
      • Brief Synopsis (300 words max, letter-sized bond paper, 1-inch margin all around, 11 points, Calibri, not to exceed 1 page)
      • Detailed Synopsis (letter-sized bond paper, 1-inch margin all around, 11 points, Calibri, not to exceed 3 pages)
      • Your name must not be written on any pages of the screenplay or any pages of the logline as well as the brief and detailed synopses
      • Brief resume/bio-data & 2 recent 2x2 photos
      • Names of the proposed or suggested production team/crew
      • Proposed/Tentative production budget (should not exceed P3 million)
      • Proposed/Tentative shooting schedule
      • Should be taken in digital formats
      • Dialogue may be primarily in Filipino or any of our local dialect. Use of English, Spanish or other languages is also acceptable as appropriate to its material. However, if any dialogue in the script is written in any dialect or language other than Filipino or English, you must provide the corresponding Filipino or English translation, along with the submitted script
      • The music you will use should be original, licensed or in the public domain
    • For Shorts Filmmakers Section
      • Should delve into the Filipino identity and culture
      • 5-20 minutes running time
      • Maximum of 25 words logline
      • Brief Synopsis (300 words max, letter-sized bond paper, 1-inch margin all around, 11 points, Calibri, not to exceed 1 page)
      • Brief resume/bio-data & 2 recent 2x2 photos
      • A copy of your valid student ID or recent graduation certificate of diploma
      • Cast and crew list
      • Should be taken in digital formats
      • Dialogue may be primarily in Filipino or any of our local dialect. Use of English, Spanish or other languages is also acceptable as appropriate to its material. However, if any dialogue in the script is written in any dialect or language other than Filipino or English, you must provide the corresponding Filipino or English translation, along with the submitted script
      • The music you will use should be original, licensed or in the public domain
  4. Submission Guidelines: To be submitted via certified mail of dropped off at the CineFilipino Film Festival office, 1196 Pablo Ocampo Ext corner Zapote St., Makati City Philippines 1205
    • For Feature-Length Narrative Filmmakers Section
      • All entries must be submitted in a long brown envelope properly labeled with your name(s), project title and contact details
        • Accomplished application form
        • Full-length screenplay in 3 hard (printed) copies with pagination and 3 soft copies (CD, Word Doc)
        • Samples of previous film/video work on DVD and/or Blu-Ray
    • For Shorts Filmmakers Section
      • All entries must be submitted in a long brown envelope properly labeled with your name(s), project title and contact details
        • Accomplished application form
        • Short film must be in DVD or Blu-Ray and mini DVD format
  5. Judging Criteria:
    • For Feature-Length Narrative Filmmakers Section
      • Originality of material and freshness of approach
      • An authentic reflection of Filipino culture and human experience
      • Good potential for audience engagement
    • For Shorts Filmmakers Section
      • Originality of material and freshness of storytelling
      • An authentic reflection of Filipino culture and human experience
      • Command of film technique and vocabulary
  6. You may submit up to three (3) entries per category. However, only one (1) entry per proponent will be considered as finalist
  7. Eight (8) finalists for the Feature-Length filmmakers section & ten (10) finalists from the Short Film section will be selected and screened during festival week
  8. The eight (8) selected Feature-Length finalists will EACH receive P1.5 million seed grant as investment into the production. No seed production grant will be given in the Short Film section
  9. You must designate a single representative to act on behalf of your production team. All communications shall be addressed to that particular representative
