Do you want to be part of a Guinness World Record and make your mother country proud? Then sign up for the Great Pinoy Peace & Unity Swim in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record in swim relay. The current record holder is held by Swim for Children of Italy which completed the swim relay with 5,028 participants in June this year. Join the water breaking event (pun intended) this December 10-11, 2010 at the newly constructed Diliman Prep School Swimming Complex in Quezon City. This will be a 24 hour swim relay event that plans to target 6,000 participants who needs to complete a length of 60ft or 18.3 meters each, swimming one after another. Each participant is required to shell out P100 donation to cover for the expenses but you could expect food and drinks from the numerous sponsors who partnered with the event.

As of writing this post, there have been written and verbal commitments from more than 6,000 participants from various organizations mostly from among athletic associations, schools, the military and the police, foundations for street children, and the college of physicians. The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has requested that a two-hour slot be allocated for the contingent of the PSC and the various National Sports Associations (NSAs) which they expect to be 500 - 1000 swimmer participants form among the 49 member national sports associations.

The attempt to break the world swimming relay record will start at exactly 4PM of December 10 and will continue non-stop until 4PM of December 11, 2010. There will be a short opening program at 3PM to kick off the start of the event.

Good news for those commuting their way to the event. Victory Liner has agreed to provide FREE shuttle service for all participants. A total of ten buses will be fielded by Victory Liner to bring passengers to and from Diliman Prep School at Commonwealth Avenue. A fifth terminal will be arranged in Marikina to service the residents and participants from Eastern Rizal.

This event is a joint partnership between Diliman Foundation Inc. and the Susan Papa Swim Academy in an effort to raise awareness about swimming as a wholesome natural participative sport for all Filipinos. Their objectives are as follows:
  • Encourage all Filipinos to learn to swim for their own health, leisure, safety and protection, thus minimizing the risks they take during sea travel and floods
  • Enliven and boost the country’s swimming community to exert all means to train and field many more of our swimmers to win the swimming medals in local and international competitions
  • Inspire many more schools and institutions to set aside resources to build, maintain and upgrade swimming facilities and share talents and expertise in creating swimming programs to as many people as possible
